Buffy watched the girls dance. They’d found the CD player and CDs and decided to listen to all of them in one night.

“At least they’re finally getting along,” she mumbled as she started swaying to the music. She recognized the music; it was the disc Giles played when he thought he was alone. Closing her eyes, she pictured him dancing. Letting her mind wander, she imagined dancing with him. She could almost feel him.

Engrossed in the music and her fantasy, she didn’t notice someone was behind her, watching her. She almost jumped when she felt hot breath on her neck.

“I’ve never seen anyone dance to that song the way you do,” Giles whispered in her ear.

Buffy felt her face flush. Whether it was from embarrassment or desire, she wasn’t sure.

“I didn’t know you were here,” she whispered.

“I just got back,” he said. “What’s going on?”

“Pent up energy. Plus, it keeps their minds off the fact that they might die tomorrow.” She continued to watch the girls, afraid to turn around and face Giles. “We could all die tomorrow.”

“I know. That’s why I’m here.”

Confused, Buffy turned to face him.

Before she could speak, he explained, “There’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I don’t want any regrets. Buffy, If something happens to you tomorrow. . .”

“Giles, what are you talking about?” Buffy asked.

Suddenly, he took her face in his hands. “I love you, Buffy,” he said before kissing her.

He moved a hand to her back and pulled her closer. He began moving in time to the music, dancing with her, but never breaking the kiss. When the song ended he pulled away slightly.

“I can think of better ways to keep our minds off tomorrow’s events,” he whispered.
